DAD, MY GUIDING STAR

Written by MICHAEL AGBAH

I'm so sorry but l have to do this Dad
When you left by your friends voice
They said you were gone but I still check the door
Hoping you will walk in and call me"Son"

Your smile carrying the smell of home
I was still in school
Books were many and heavy on my back
But your absence was the heaviest thing I carried

I wanted to tell you about the quiz we passed
The jokes my friends laughed at
Then l finally learned to fix my own tie
Now the chair you love is empty

Your children tears are flowing like the river
And the air feels too still
But l keep your voice like a bookmark in my heart
So l never loose my place in you
In the yarn you started in me
